Pricing and Quotes
A fireplace or stove budget needs to cover the appliance, any chimney or flue work, and installation. The total depends on your chosen model and the work needed in your home. A project-specific quote helps you understand these costs before making a decision.
What affects the total cost?
Fireplace or stove
Appliance costs vary with the type, size, materials, finish and controls. A freestanding stove and a built-in fireplace can involve different installation and finishing work. Choosing suitable heat output for the room also matters, so include room dimensions and insulation details in your enquiry.
Chimney and flue
An existing chimney needs assessment before its suitability can be confirmed. Inspection, repairs or a suitable liner may add to the budget.
For a new flue, the route, length, materials and number of bends affect the work involved. Passing through floors or the roof, providing suitable supports and arranging access at height can also influence installation costs.
Installation and finishing
Allow for preparation as well as fitting the appliance. Depending on the project, this may include removing an old fireplace, adapting the opening, protecting nearby surfaces, providing combustion air and finishing the surrounding walls or hearth.
Ask which tasks are included and whether any building or decorating work needs a separate contractor.
Information to include in your enquiry
To help Valenteijn Haarden en Kachels understand your project, provide:
- Your location and property type.
- Whether you are replacing an appliance or planning a new installation.
- Your preferred fireplace or stove type, with a model name if available.
- Room dimensions and basic insulation information.
- Photographs of the proposed position, existing fireplace, chimney and roof.
- Any known flue dimensions, inspection reports or previous problems.
- Your approximate budget and preferred timing.
Ask whether a site inspection is needed before a final quotation can be prepared.
Comparing quotes and planning ahead
Check that each quote clearly identifies the appliance, flue components, labour, VAT and any exclusions. Confirm whether removal, access equipment, finishing and commissioning are included, and ask how unforeseen work would be priced.
Include ongoing fuel and maintenance costs in your budget. For wood-burning installations, the Dutch fire service’s safe heating guidance recommends chimney sweeping at least once a year.
